Skype Translator results from decades of work by the industry, years of work by our researchers, and now is being developed jointly by the Skype and Microsoft Translator teams. The demo showed near real-time audio translation from English to German and vice versa, combining Skype voice and IM technologies with Microsoft Translator, and neural network-based speech recognition.

Think your Skype messages get end-to-end encryption? Think again
With the help of independent privacy and security researcher Ashkan Soltani, Ars used Skype to send four Web links that were created solely for purposes of this article. Two of them were never clicked on, but the other two—one beginning in HTTP link and the other HTTPS—were accessed by a machine at 65.52.100.214, an IP address belonging to Microsoft.

New Skype malware spreading at 2,000 clicks per hour makes money by using victims’ machines to mine Bitcoins
To avoid this threat and others like it, don’t click on random links you receive on Skype. You’ll be doing yourself a favor, helping stop the spread of malware, and ensuring criminals get a smaller pay day.
At least it’s just bitcoin mining and not stealing credentials. This is why I always have three performance monitors on my dashboard; CPU usage, bandwidth, and memory. With this piece of malware you would immediately see a problem because the CPU monitor shouldn’t be full of color. Then simply take the PC offline and do some investigation or bring it to someone. On Windows machines there’s Perfmon to look at these performance monitors. Just like a car has its fuel and temperature guages, computer users would be far more secure getting used to performance monitor guages. I often wonder why distributors don’t display these somewhere as a default option much like they have for the clock.
Hiding secret messages in Skype silences
The hidden messages can consist of text, audio or video, and can be transmitted at a rate of almost 1 kilobit per second. And, according to Mazurczyk, the secret data is indistinguishable from silence-period traffic

That’s about 128 bytes per second or a little less than a tweet or long text per second.

Configure Linux to Work with Skype
I’ll assume that because you’re a Linux Journal reader, getting Fedora Core 3 up and running on your Skype server is a no-brainer. The only important thing to remember is that Skype is a Qt application (though it’s also available in a version with Qt statically linked), and the Skype API uses D-BUS. Also, disable the screensaver (after all, there won’t be any screen to “save”) and power standby features as these may interfere with Skype.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to setting up Linux to work with Skype (it assumes you have set up a Linux user account named skype for the purpose):

Orange Finds Its Web Services Voice
The app has been launched for iOS in 95 countries and will be ready for Android early next year. It is free for anyone to download, no matter which mobile network they are on. It enables users to make free high-definition voice calls and send instant messages to other Libon users over mobile or Wi-Fi connections, as well as set up three personalized visual voicemails that can be set to respond to certain individuals or contact groups. In addition, voicemails can be updated with the user’s most recent Twitter of Facebook status messages (converted into a voicemail using a text-to-speech tool — that could be interesting…).

Skype Planning A Big Social Advertising Upgrade, Starting First With Windows 8
Today the company unveiled Skype Ads for Windows 8, a new initiative it plans to launch formally in 2013 that will see a number of new ad formats enter the service that play on social interactivity. They include promotions that will appear in conversation streams and ways for two people talking to each other to share sponsored content while communicating on the platform. (Yes, it sounds a lot like what Facebook is doing.)

Skype makes chats and user data more available to police
