What is MATE?

MATE is a fork of Gnome 2.

It provides an intuitive and attractive desktop to Linux users using traditional metaphors.

Just installed MATE in a Fedora 17 VM and it works just like Gnome 2.  Fantastic!  I can now use the latest and greatest Fedora and Ubuntu builds.
