This also means that companies and Chicago startups who would like to leverage this data are able to as part of daily business.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>via <a href=\"http:\/\/thechangelog.com\/the-city-of-chicago-is-on-github\/\">The City of Chicago is on Github &#8211; The Changelog<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I downloaded the <a href=\"https:\/\/data.cityofchicago.org\/Public-Safety\/Crimes-2001-to-present\/ijzp-q8t2\">crime data dataset<\/a> that supposedly includes all reported crimes from 2001.\u00a0 The CSV file was 1G in plain text.\u00a0 They could have compressed it but it doesn&#8217;t matter.\u00a0 It contained over 4 million records.\u00a0 Now I have to figure out how to slice and dice this dataset and for what purpose I don&#8217;t quite know yet.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This means that projects like OpenStreetMaps will be able to add over 2GBs of Chicago data to their site.
