In a paper on \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/papers.ssrn.com\/sol3\/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2146251\">Startups and Patent Trolls<\/a>,\u201d Prof. Colleen Chien of Santa Clara University found that 55 percent of defendants to patent troll suits are small, with less than $10 million in annual revenue.
